From Loom to Frescoes

The Story

Tuscany has long been at the heart of Europe’s textile tradition, from the silk workshops of the Middle Ages to the grand woven patterns that filled the homes of wealthy Florentine aristocratic families (Medici, Strozzi, Ruccellai, Corsini), Saints, Popes and Courtiers during the Renaissance. Through trade, local artisans absorbed motifs from distant cultures—pomegranates, florals, and geometric forms—transforming them into symbols of abundance, love, and renewal.

  • This creative osmosis left us with a visual language still admired today, celebrated in Renaissance portraits, Pre-Raphaelite paintings, and later in the Arts & Crafts movement. Our designs honour this legacy, carrying forward a distinctly Tuscan spirit of artistry, beauty, and timeless elegance. Today, the richly designed textiles are still printed from a small   number of cotton mills dotted around Florence, Lucca and Pistoia. 

    The design remains true to the highest quality as it has always been and is still resplendent with the eastern exotic influence of stylised, flowing, biomorphic patterns of pomegranates, palms, lotus flowers, vines and leaves that have reflected the Italian aesthetic sensibility for the last 700 years. Heirlooms that carry the essence of culture and the elegance of sustainability, designed to be lived with, treasured, and made your own.
